You couldn’t be further away from the truth if you thought that low carbohydrate diets can help you lose weight. Most of these low carbohydrate diets usually reduce your carbohydrate intake to an extremely low level which is unhealthy for you.
To lose weight, you must first avoid starving. You must eat healthy foods at the right times or else you end up gaining weight instead. Just imagine eating several cups of low fat ice cream before bed. You will definitely gain a lot of weight because your body won’t be able to burn off the calories since you will be sleeping. Here is a tip. No eating 2-3 hours before bed.
I recommend that you have a diet that is high in protein and low in carbohydrate such as tomatoes, lean red meat, skinless chicken/turkey, egg white, broccoli, tuna, salmon and whey. The more protein you consume, the more lean muscles you build. As such, you burn more fat as all the surplus energy in your body is used for the maintenance of the muscles instead of being stored as fat.
Remember, eat right and eat at the right times if you want to acquire a sexy and lean body.

My husband recently had a heart attack, so I went about researching nutrition, “smart heart diet”, etc. Despite buying a zillion books, I’ve found I learn more from browsing online than from all the books I’ve read! Thanks~

As a former horseracing jockey I never struggled with my weight by applying the following balanced food intake formula;
15% fats, 35% sugars, 50% proteins.
If your physical activity is low, don’t exceed 1200 calories a day, it it is high you can go up till 2200 calories a day always implementing the above formula.
Overweight will melt away week after week.

I have seen that so many people belive that you should cut out one food group or another. I believe the secret to sustainable weight loss is to eat less and better quality food.
Calorie counting sucks as it is never easy portion control however is.

but is there a limit on how much our daily intake of monostaurated fats is?

I believe that whatever you consume, it has to be in moderation even if it is something good. But of course, we should avoid unhealthy foods or at least minimize our intake on those.

I like how you point out some examples of lean protein. I think the key to weight loss is to focus on smaller meals of lean protein and cutting out junk food. Of course, adding exercise is extremely helpful too, to build muscle and burn more fat.

I get off from work at 12:00am and when I get home I would be very hungry so I would always grab something to eat and I would goto bed after 2 hours. Its a very bad habit.
